Cupping is an ancient Chinese practice in which glass cups are applied to the skin and a vacuum is created under the cup using heat. It utilizes suction and negative pressure to drain excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions, lift connective tissue and bring blood flow to the skin and muscles. For most patients, this is a relaxing and relieving sensation. There is always the risk of bruising whenever cupping is done and this can last up to 7 days.
Generally, cupping is combined with acupuncture in one treatment, but it can also be used alone. The negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, and even cellulite. For cellulite treatments, oil is first applied to the skin and then the cups are moved up and down the surrounding area.
Cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. It is thought to affect tissues up to four inches deep from the external skin. Toxins can be released, blockages can be cleared, and veins and arteries can be refreshed within these four inches of affected materials. Even hands, wrists, legs and ankles can be cupped. This treatment is also valuable for the lungs, and can clear congestion from a common cold or help to control a person’s asthma.
Anita uses the original art of cupping, utilizing glass cups and a flame as the technique to apply the cup. This increases blood flow, removes tissue toxins and allows fresh blood to feed, nourish and heal affected areas of the body.
